After a year with no MCU movies in theaters, it looks like Marvel is making up for lost time with a thrilling set of films ready to bring fans back into theaters. Marvel Studios surprised fans with a just-released “sizzle trailer” titled the ‘Marvel Studios Phase Four Announcement Trailer’ that provides the new titles and dates for the sequels to ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ and the first footage for ‘The Eternals.’ The trailer begins with highlights of past MCU movies, emphasizing how ‘Avengers: Endgame’ was the end of an era with Iron Man and Black Widow dying and Steve Rogers retiring. While WandaVision and ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ have kicked up Phase 4 of the MCU on TV, the movies have been held off due to the coronavirus pandemic. Meant to open almost exactly a year ago, ‘Black Widow’ will now appear in both theaters and Disney+ on July 9th. It will be followed by ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,’ which is set to run only in theaters on September 3rd.
We then see the first-ever footage of the highly anticipated ‘The Eternals,’ directed by Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao, due out November 5th. The few quick frames shown include some of the stunning landscapes and sunsets you would expect from a Zhao film. The closest thing to an action shot was Jolie’s character, Thena, wielding an intricately designed, golden sword and Gemma Chan’s Sersi, intoning “we’re the ones who changed everything.” The trailer then moves into “what’s to come,” which includes showing the titles of ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’ set to premiere on December 17th, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverseof Madness’ premiering March 25, 2022, ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ will open on May 6, 2022, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ is set to open on July 8, 2022, and finally, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ opening in theaters February 17, 2023.
