Swedish artist and designer Love Hulten takes a distinctive approach to product design, melding the functional world of electronic devices with the creative world of unique art objects. He is particularly well known for creating household computer devices with beautiful hardwood cases. His most beloved pieces include fully functional handmade, solid walnut takes on the Nintendo Game Boy and the classic Apple Macintosh desktop computer.
Mr. Hulten’s latest work is a drastic reimagination of the desktop gaming console – the colorful and customizable Datorbox. First and perhaps foremost, this is an exceptionally powerful option for the serious gamer. Measuring only 31x24x7centimeters, the Datorbox packs a powerful punch with an Intel Core processer, 8-gigabttes of RAM, and a terabyte of storage capacity. It also supports 4K video, is fully VR-ready, and comes complete with just any type port input that you can imagine.
In addition to its striking appearance, the wood casing that covers the Datorbox is designed for high performance with a grille vent that provides optimal airflow while keeping the whirr of its component parts to a low whisper even under heavy use.
Located on the top of the device, the Datorbox’s grille vent doubles as an iconic depiction of the planet Saturn. The front panel is adorned by a line of six bulb-caps that light in an ambient Larson scanner pattern whenever the Datorbox is in use.
