Leica Camera recently unveiled the manually-wound Leica L1 & L2 watches. Each version features a scratch-proof domed sapphire crystal and a transparent case back, and both are water-resistant up to 50 meters. What’s more, the Leica L1 & L2 have the patented push-crown with a red ceramic insert. Leica says the insert takes inspiration from the “red dot” of the camera’s shutter release. Similarly, the company says, the domed watch glass is reminiscent of a camera lens.
Likewise, all functional details harken to signature features from the international camera manufacturer’s rich history. In comparison, the watches share many of the same features, including a 41mm stainless steel case, double-sided anti-reflective coating, precise indices and hands, a dedicated pusher for advancing the date, and a style that is unmistakably Leica. However, the L2 gains a GMT function via an internal rotating bezel, a day/night indicator, and a hand-crafted alligator leather strap with 3D cushioning and detailing in red. The L1 boasts a timeless black calf leather strap with a rich red interior.
Iconic design, mechanical perfection, and long-term vision have been the standard at Leica for over 150 years. The company built its reputation on German craftsmanship and innovative technologies. Leica says art and design always remain a focal point as well. According to the website, the Leica L1 & L2 will be available exclusively in select stores throughout America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
