Harley-Davidson builds an electric bicycle. That sentence would be laughed at as pure ridiculousness in any year except 2020. In the year where any headline is possible, Harley-Davidson plans to release an electric bicycle under an all-new spin off-brand named Serial 1 Cycle Company.
Harley-Davidson Serial 1 Cycle Company has posted a teaser trailer giving us a glimpse of its first e-bike that pays homage to the earliest pristine example of a Harley-Davidson motorbike from 1903. The e-bike’s nickname is Serial Number One. The bike’s frame wears a turn of the century black coat of paint featuring a sprung seat wrapped in leather and rolls on a set of white-wall tires. Serial Number One’s color scheme mirrors the 1903 model motorcycle that spawned its creation. Upon studying the e-bike’s design, not giving it a square frame to match its 1903 predecessor seems like a bit of a missed design opportunity. After all, an electric bike that looks like a 1903 motorcycle sounds hipster-chic.
Few details about this Harley-Davidson electric bicycle have been released. What we do know is that Serial Number One uses a composite belt-drive with disc brakes. At the time of this publication, no word of battery range, motor output, or charging time on this e-bike is known. Production of this Serial 1 Cycle Company electric bicycle is scheduled to start in March 2021.
