For the latest and greatest design news, people have long turned to the 22-year-old print magazine, Dwell, as well as the brand’s website, Dwell.com. Known for being a platform for the best-designed products and expert advice for making one’s space a better place to live, Dwell has just announced its partnership with Abodu and Danish design studio Norm Architects, which produced Dwell House. Dwell House is a 540-square-foot one-bedroom Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) that is constructed off-site and transported to your property in a seamless process developed by Dwell’s partner Abodu. The Dwell House fits in most backyards and, according to Dwell, “it lets you have the extra room you need without the house hunt or months of construction.” Additionally, at a base price of $389,000, it is a far cry from what it would cost in most parts of the U.S. to construct a comparable dwelling.

The Dwell House is designed to provide a connection to your primary home – or to create privacy – depending on how you place it on your property. Whether you choose to use the house as an office, a Granny flat, workout space, art studio, or rent it for some extra cash, this highly versatile abode is the answer to all these potential uses.

The exterior of Dwell House is constructed from custom-milled real cedar siding that is durable, weather-resistant, and sustainably harvested. It comes in a choice of black or natural finishes. The house can also be easily painted to match your existing home if desired. Fine lighting manufacturer, Ravenhill Studio has provided the outdoor sconces used for the exterior lighting. The standing-seam metal roof used provides a clean profile, as well as a long lifespan, and is low maintenance.

Norm Architects designed Dwell House with Scandanavian functionality in mind. From the well-placed 12-foot folding glass wall to thoughtfully designed built-in storage, the structure will suit the needs of one or two occupants. By creating open, light-filled spaces (without sacrificing energy efficiency), Dwell House feels larger than its actual size. The house consists of one bedroom, a living/dining area, a full kitchen, and a full bathroom. The partners did not skimp on the appliances and finishes. For the kitchen, the Dwell House arrives with a complete set of Bosch appliances including a range, refrigerator, dishwasher, and an optional washer and dryer. Both the bathroom and kitchen have 3cm eased-edge Quartz countertops and custom cabinetry.

Windows from Marvin’s Signature Ultimate line are used throughout the house with clean-lined frames and provide high energy efficiency in any climate. White Oak finish shelving is also included to keep clutter at bay and to display your favorite decorative objects. The Dwell House is available with a choice of a standard or a wraparound custom-milled real cedar deck. The measurements of the house with a standard deck are 13’h x 42’l x 19’w. With the wraparound deck, the house measures 13’h x 42’l x 22’ w. Those interested in exploring purchasing Dwell House, visit the website to see if your property qualifies.
