Spring 2021 Men's Style Trends - IMBOLDN
Go to Top

Spring is one of the best seasons. The trees start to look green again, flowers bloom, and the temperatures slowly rise to a more pleasant level. If you live in an area that gets a ton of snow and cold, it means throwing off those heavy parkas and boots to replace them with clothing that feels like a breath of fresh air. This is especially true after living through a winter where the pandemic was in full force. Hopefully, by spring 2021, things will be a lot different. So let’s look ahead to some spring trends for 2021 in this style guide that men can look forward to coming up in March.

Dior Oblique Bermuda Shorts

Nautical Themes

Dolce and Gabbana and Gucci were all over this trend for spring 2021. Clothing with a nautical theme and feel ruled the runway that was virtual this season for Milan’s fashion week. That means sailor sweaters, various shades of blue, and striped t-shirts. The anchor printed sweaters at Gucci are an especially great example of this trend. If you can’t get out on a boat, you might as well dress like you love the sea. Navy and white is the ultimate nautical color combination. You can get the style in this Polo Men’s Pink Pony Cricket Sweater ($298). Throw it on with a pair of linen shorts and boat shoes to be ready for the easy breezes that blow through spring.

Trench Coats

Another thing spring has an abundance of is rain. Spring showers bring those gorgeous May flowers, right? So you need a jacket that can repel this kind of wet weather. Luckily the old school trench coat is making a comeback. Many fashion houses showcased a trench for their 2021 spring collections, including Loewe, Rick Owens, Tod’s, and Ermenegildo Zegna. For spring, it’s best to buy one in a lighter neutral color like taupe, tan, or even ecru. Or if you really want to stand out, buy one in a dusty rose color because MSGM featured one in this color for an oversized trench style.

To buy a trench that will withstand the test of time, you have to go with Burberry. Their Westminster Heritage Trench Coat ($2190) is an icon of fashion with a double-breasted style that will carry you through spring, season after season.

Bold T-Shirts

More and more people are working from home, so you may not need a new influx of office clothing. That’s why it’s time to up your t-shirt game with some of the bold and funky styles that are perfect for spring 2021. Make a statement with an eye-popping t-shirt from a variety of designer companies that featured them this year.

Balmain’s White Cotton T-Shirt With Multicolor Rubber Balmain Paris Logo Print ($350) is a cool example of a bold t-shirt with a retro-style print that looks straight out of the 80s and is brand new as part of their spring 2021 collection. Or go with Paul Smith’s Slim-Fit Skater Monkey T-Shirt ($95) that features a cheeky print and 100 percent organic cotton fabric.

80s Inspired Suits

The 80s are back in a big big way for spring 2021. It’s on display in neon colors, pastels, and funky styles. One of those trends is the 80s inspired suit, and yes, you should be thinking of the suits that Crockett and Tubbs wore in the 80s television series, “Miami Vice.” Lighter colored suits with pastel t-shirts underneath and no ties in sight are a fun look for spring. If you want to pull this off, you just have to slick back your hair, push up your sleeves, and rock it.

You might as well achieve this look in style with a suit that is double-breasted and oversized. So if you have gained a few pounds over the winter during the pandemic, don’t fret because the 80s style suit will hide that well. Get the look with separates or go for a full suit from Brunello Cucinelli. Their Linen Blazer ($3695) is a good start in white as a double-breasted suit coat that has gold artisan metal buttons. Put a turquoise shirt underneath and say hello to the 80s!

Florals

Men sometimes shy away from floral prints. It’s a mistake because when florals are done right they can look quite debonair and stylish. Daniel Craig, as James Bond in “Casino Royale,” wore a tan floral printed shirt in Madagascar that is the perfect example of what this trend should be. Muted grey ferns on a taupe fabric with a cut that showcased his biceps was a memorable look.

Magnoli Clothiers made a replica that was inspired by this shirt. It’s their Madagascar Shirt ($175), of course, to channel a little bit of that casual James Bond flair.

Gucci also makes a Liberty Floral Bowling Shirt ($790) which is another fun example of the spring floral trend. With a light blue and lilac floral print, mother-of-pearl buttons, and a 100 percent cotton fabric this shirt is lightweight and perfect for those warmer days during spring.

Bermuda Shorts

As a preface to summer, if you live in a place that’s warm enough in spring, it’s time to get out the Bermuda shorts. An easy style to wear that hits right above the knee, just make sure that you have the right footwear with your shorts. Clean sneakers, sandals with socks, and even dress loafers were seen on the runways for spring 2021 from Dsquared 2 and Casablanca Paris.

For the ultimate in Bermuda shorts, you have to check out the Dior Oblique Bermuda Shorts ($1450). They are multicolored silk twill with the iconic Dior graphic, which is the absolute classiest way to rock a pair of Bermuda shorts this spring. Unforgettable.
