Converse and Kim Jones have teamed up for their first collaboration, the Converse x Kim Jones Collection, launching on April 8th. Jones, who currently helms the creative direction at Dior Homme and Fendi Women’s, has been fashion’s go-to innovator injecting elaborate traditional design elements with modern street art into seasonal collections. This time, the prolific designer debuts a Converse collection taking its “cues from streetwear and sportswear of years past, for a contemporary head-to-toe collection with the Chuck 70 at the center.” Inspired by contemporary streetwear and ’90s style, the collaboration features classic pieces of American sportswear mixed with utilitarian elements.
The Converse x Kim Jones Collection not only features the Chuck 70 but is completed by four accompanying garments. The first is a water-resistant parka crafted with a combination of nylon and mesh. There is also a cotton cargo pant that is a modern take on a traditional fit with snap closures and mesh elements for breathability. A crewneck sweatshirt and a T-shirt round out the collection. Jones’ take on the Chuck 70 included adding a transparent TPU cage to the canvas upper and elongating the curved rubber sole. The limited-edition footwear comes in two colorways—all-white and black with white—with visible Kim Jones branding on the sockliner and tongue.
