Few sneakers have the timeless appeal of the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars. Even with advancements in everything from cushioned soles that conform to the unique contours of your feet to ultralight material manufactured for optimal athletic performance, their classic design holds a permanent place in sneaker lore. In the decades since their release, the iconic design hasn’t changed much, after all, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. So the Converse Renew Denim Collection isn’t as much of a revamp of the Chucks as it is a way to use their timeless appeal as a vanguard for ethically sourced and responsibly manufactured apparel.
The Converse Renew Denim Collection encompasses a three-part release of the Chuck Taylor All-Stars. Two new models of the Chuck 70 High and one Chuck 70 Low ditch their traditional canvas base for something better. These special edition sneakers are made from renewed canvas, denim, and cotton. The shoes also use 100% recycled plastic bottles as part of the company’s mission to produce more sustainable goods.
Even though Converse’s new design hinges upon reused material, its aesthetic is the one thing that hasn’t been recycled. The company’s “Renew By You” initiative aims to entice more customers to choose these sustainable sneakers but allowing them to be customized for a one-of-a-kind pair of Chuck Taylors that looks nothing like the countless pairs you’ve owned through the years.
The Converse Renew Denim Collection will be available beginning August 22 on the Converse website.
