A portmanteau of the Spanish words for “house” and “friends,” Casamigos was created by and for “houses of friends.” If this sounds like an idea born from a night of heavy tequila drinking… well, it was.
The creation of longtime friends actor George Clooney and nightlife entrepreneur Rande Gerber, Casamigos Tequila arose after months of tequila “sampling” while the two friends were building adjacent vacation homes in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The incredibly successful Casamigos brand ultimately sold for $1 billion just five short years after its inception.
Now, Clooney and Gerber are back to engage in more south-of-the-boarder distillery action, expanding the Casamigos portfolio with their first mezcal (a close cousin of tequila that employs different production methods and different varieties of agave). A particularly young mezcal, Casamigos has been touted as uncannily smooth for an unaged spirit. It is defined by its smooth finish and its fragrant notes of fruit (think mango and tamarind) and herbs (think mint and thyme).
If you want to know more about the distinct flavor of Casamigos Mezcal, you might just need to taste this highly-anticipated spirit for yourself. Mark your calendar — The mezcal will be available on April 1st throughout the United States, England, Australia, and Canada.
