The new Cannondale SuperSix EVO Leichtbau LTD Frameset isn’t the total redesign many fans of the SuperSix platform were hoping for this year, but two hundred lucky cyclists will still find plenty to like. ‘Leichtbau’ is German for ‘lightweight,’ and at 750 grams (just over one and a half pounds for those of us stuck with the Imperial system), this frame certainly delivers on that promise.
Cannondale’s svelte, limited-edition frame also packs plenty of creature comforts. The bicycle frame’s truncated airfoil tube shaping throughout reduces drag by up to 30% without sacrificing a small tubing profile. Unsightly brake lines disappear into a special opening in the front of the headtube, further reducing drag, and Speed Release thru-axles make wheel changes a breeze, even without a multi-tool handy.
The $5200 price of admission includes the frame itself, fork, headset, seatpost, saddle clamp, and derailleur hangers. Cycling enthusiasts who want the same go-fast tech in an easier-to-find package should check out the standard SuperSix EVO Hi-mod (assuming they can stomach an extra 90g, that is). Those who do will walk (or, rather, ride) away with a completed cycle instead of just a stylish frame and their DIY superbike dreams.
