The 2024 BMW R 18 Roctane joins the R 18 lineup as the fifth member of the family. This R 18 variant is a familiar foundation dressed in a different wrapper advertising a new flavor. BMW Motorrad describes the bike as “a cruiser, a bagger, and everything in between.”
Starting with its unique features, the 2024 BMW R18 Roctane stands out from the pack sporting a 21-inch at the front and 18-inch at the back. It also dresses its boxer engine in a combination of matte and metallic black finish with a dark chrome exhaust system. Ergonomically, the R18 Roctane features mid-raised handlebars with no fairing and a shorter front fender to emphasize the larger front wheel.
Built on the same double-loop steel tube frame as the R 18 and R 18 Classic, the Roctane features an air/oil-cooled 1,802cc engine producing a claimed 91 horsepower and 116 lb.-ft of torque. The curb weight of the bike sits at 825 pounds, which makes it 35 lbs. heavier than the standard BMW R 18. Suspension travel at the front is measured at 4.7 inches using a nonadjustable telescopic fork and 3.5 inches at the back using a central rear shock.
Standard features include ABS, cruise control, stability control, brake control, and three ride modes: Rain, Rock, and Roll. Optional equipment ranges from heated grips and Reverse Assist to various engine covers, exhausts, and saddles. Expect to see the 2024 BMW R 18 Roctane at your local dealer by fall 2023 in one of three new colors: Black Storm Metallic, Mineral Gray Metallic Matte, and Manhattan Metallic Matte.
