Blancpain and Swatch have joined forces to make a splash in the world of diving watches with their highly anticipated Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection. This exciting collaboration introduces five new models that pay tribute to Earth’s oceans and the fascinating creatures that inhabit them.
Each watch in the Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection is named after one of the world’s five oceans, and their design draws inspiration from the vibrant and colorful nudibranchs, commonly known as “sea slugs.” These watches are more than just timepieces; they are a celebration of the marine world.
The collection features a 42.3mm case made of Swatch’s innovative Bioceramic material, which combines ceramic with a castor oil-based substance. This unique material not only provides a matte finish but also ensures water resistance up to 91 meters, or fifty fathoms. The unidirectional dive bezel is equipped with Grade A Super-LumiNova markings and a scratch-resistant “bio-sourced” glass insert.
Inside the case, you’ll find a vignette dial, lumed indices, hands, and Swatch’s automatic Sistem51 movement. This 19-jewel caliber is assembled entirely by machines and boasts a 90-hour power reserve. The transparent full rotor is adorned with the name “Scuba Fifty Fathoms” and the respective ocean designation and spirit animal for each model.
The collection offers two distinct dial layouts, catering to different tastes. One resembles the standard Fifty Fathoms, while the other exudes a more vintage charm with unique text placement and the older Blancpain wordmark.
The five models included in the collection are:
Atlantic Ocean: A majestic blue watch inspired by the Glaucus atlanticus sea slug.
Pacific Ocean: An eye-catching orange and black timepiece inspired by the Chromodoris kuiteri nudibranch.
Indian Ocean: A medium-green watch with green and orange accents, paying homage to the Nembrotha kubaryana.
Arctic Ocean: This vintage-inspired model combines beige and orange hues, reminiscent of 1960s Fifty Fathoms models.
Antarctic Ocean: Featuring an ice-white case and blue accents, this watch takes inspiration from the Tritoniella belli.
These stunning timepieces will be available for purchase exclusively at selected brick-and-mortar Swatch stores starting on September 9th, with a price tag of $400.
