Swatch and Hodinkee have teamed up yet again to release the sleek new Swatch Sistem51 Hodinkee Stoplight Neon Remix, a new timepiece that was inspired by the Swatch Stoplight, first released in 1990. Since the very first Swatch watch was released in 1983, the company has produced nearly 10,000 different timepieces, many of them done up in daring and memorable designs. They are so affordable and so numerous, one could literally buy a Swatch for any occasion and outfit.
The Swatch Sistem51 Hodinkee Stoplight Neon Remix has a 42mm case made of matte blue semi-transparent plastic. The dial has been dressed in a warm white with a cut-out date wheel that has a layout of 31 days around the dial, telling you not only what time it is, but also serving as a de facto calendar as well. A “tennis-ball neon yellow” was chosen for the seconds hand and date indicator, adding a bit of playfulness to the dial. The clear caseback window provides a view of the layered time divisions that are mirrored in the exposed ratios of the intermeshing gears known as the “going train.” The Sistem51 Hodinkee Stoplight Neon Remix has a fully mechanical auto-winding movement, with 90 hours of power reserve. The “51” refers to the number of parts inside the movement. The watch is finished with a semi-transparent silicone strap.
