‘Tis the season for all-wheel drive and holiday cheer brought on by high performance. Audi announced two new performance variants of the already impressive performing RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback. These new additions to the lineup go on sale in early December.
The new Audi RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback high-performance variants follow the tried and true recipe of losing weight and adding power. It starts with the engine. The 4.0-liter V8 gains a set of larger turbochargers to increase boost pressure. As a result, this adds 30 more horsepower and 37 more torques for a new rated 621 hp and 627 lb.-ft torque. Audi claims the added muscle allows the station wagon and sedan to be 0.2 seconds faster off the line.
In addition, the new variants come standard with the Audi RS Dynamic Package, which features dynamic all-wheel steering, a rear-Quattro sport differential, and an increased top speed of 174 mph. Furthermore, customers have the option of carbon ceramic brakes included in the RS Dynamic Plus package, which saves 75 pounds from the vehicle’s curb weight. This extra performance pack increases the top speed even further to 190 mph.
To reduce weight by 17.6 pounds, these models are built with less interior insulation. However, the bonus makes listening to the Audi twin-turbo V8 howl easier. A new self-locking center differential designed to improve driving dynamics is also lighter and more compact. Audi also claims the new diff allows RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback eight-speed automatic transmission to shift faster.
These performance variants roll on 21-inch aluminum wheels with a ten-spoke star design. However, a 22-inch wheel option wrapped in Continental Sport Contact 7 tires is available. Additional exterior color options include matte and metallic Ascari Blue and matter Dew Silver. As for the interior, blue stitching can be seen on the Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, floor mats, and center console. The bucket seats are upholstered in blue Valcona leather and blue seat belts. The only thing missing on these new Audi RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback is a giant red bow on the roof.
