An A19 chip, far-field microphones, and new surround-sound support make the streaming box more ambitious.

The streaming box is becoming less about finding an app and more about controlling the room. The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K makes that shift with microphones built into the box itself and a more conversational Siri interface.

Three far-field microphones allow voice commands without reaching for the remote. Siri AI can handle follow-up questions about films and shows, while personal recommendations can draw on context from a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. The A19 processor brings up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and twice the GPU performance of the preceding generation, alongside dedicated AV1 decoding for efficient streaming.

The most tangible home-theater change is support for four HomePod speakers. Four HomePod mini 2 units can work with the box as a surround system, with automatic calibration based on their placement. Matching front and rear pairs of second-generation full-size HomePods are supported as well.

A redesigned Siri Remote adds Precision Finding and an audible locator, addressing the familiar problem of a remote disappearing between cushions. Like other smart home hubs, the box can manage compatible accessories, including cameras and doorbells, from the television.

The new Apple TV 4K is priced at $299 in the United States. Preorders are open, and retail availability begins November 13. Siri AI launches in English in supported markets, with some personal features requiring a compatible iPhone.
