Alpine is celebrating its 60th anniversary by introducing an electric prototype. The official unveiling will be at the upcoming French Formula 1 Grand Prix. Alpine describes this prototype as a rolling platform to test and preview its future technologies. This new electric concept car is called the Alpine A100 E-Ternité, based on the current A110.
Its 60-kWh battery pack uses modules sourced from Megane E-Tech and weighs 864-pounds. Alpine designed battery casings to optimize the car’s weight distribution. As a result, four battery modules are placed at the front of the vehicle, with eight more modules at the back, creating a 42/58 weight distribution. For comparison, the standard ICE A100 has a 43/57 setup. The battery range is estimated at 261 miles using the WLTP cycle.
Performance on the Alpine A100 E-Ternite’s rear-mounted electric motor is rated at 239-hp and 221 lb.-ft of torque. It sprints from zero to 60 in 4.5-seconds and onward to a top speed of 155 mph. Ohlins shock absorbers, modified rear anti-roll bar, unique springs, and a reinforced rear help the prototype stay agile. Moreover, Alpine designed the prototype with a removable roof panel for an open-air experience. The cabin interior features a premium audio system with eight speakers and an “innovative multimedia system” that works with the driver’s personal tablet to display the infotainment system. Alpine plans to show off the A110 E-Ternite at the French Formula 1 Grand Prix on July 24.
