BMW has announced a new addition to its 2 Series lineup. This new standalone model is called the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe. Its purpose throughout development was to recapture the practical and versatile performance of the brand’s roots. The first thing you will notice in the new BMW 2 Series Coupe press photos is the kidney grille. Since this new coupe is meant to capture – dare we say, reboot, the iconic BMW 2002, the new 2 Series wears a smaller vertical flap-designed kidney grille. This is only the tip of the iceberg of the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe.
BMW has claimed its new 2 Series Coupe will be lightweight with a low center of gravity, and perfectly balanced with 50/50 weight distribution. Press photos show a car that is proportional in size with crisp, smooth body lines and muscular angles dressed in a captivating shade of purple. The world will be able to see the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe when it debuts at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 8th.
For America, the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe sports car will be offered in two variants, the 230i, and the M240i xDrive. The 2022 BMW 230i Coupe features the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine bolted to an eight-speed automatic. The M240i xDrive is the Coupe’s performance model sporting a twin-turbocharged 3.0-lite straight-six producing 382-hp, a sport-tuned eight-speed automatic, and will be available in rear-wheel drive. Europe will see the return of a diesel option with a 2.0-liter diesel engine and a 48-volt hybrid system to produce 190-hp with an eight-speed automatic.
The BMW 2 Series M240i xDrive can be optioned with an M Sport Pro package. This performance package includes 19-inch M lightweight alloy wheels, M Sport brakes, a front lip spoiler, and M rear spoiler. In addition, BMW will offer model-specific M Performance Parts for the 2 Series Coupe. BMW has announced it will launch the 2 Series Coupe in late 2021.
