The storied history of the Ford Mustang Shelby began in 1965, when renowned automotive designer and race driver Carroll Shelby completed an extensive aftermarket racing upgrade on an existing Mustang model to produce the Shelby GT350. But he really brought the power two years later with the creation of the Shelby GT500.
Today, Ford is paying homage to Carroll Shelby’s greatness with the release of an all-new Mustang Shelby GT500 for 2020. Oh, and with more than 700 horsepower, this car will be the fastest and most powerful Mustang ever.
Driven by a 5.2-liter V8 engine with a massive 2.65-liter supercharger, the 2020 Shelby GT500 can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in roughly 3.5 seconds and travel a quarter of a mile in less than 11 seconds. Adding to its supreme speed and agility are a Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, a unique carbon fiber driveshaft, and a gearbox that can complete shifts in approximately 100 milliseconds.
