The driving force behind Performance Cars London, Joe Macari has been buying, selling, servicing, and racing Ferrari sports cars for more than a quarter of a century. However, while visiting a significant German Ferrari collection in 2007, he stumbled upon a very different type of racing vehicle. When Mr. Macari laid eyes on this highly unique 1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500, he knew he had to buy it instantly.
After changing hands several times over the past decade, Mr. Macari’s Ford Sierra RS Cosworth is now on its way to the auction block through the UK’s Silverstone Auctions. This vehicle is number 455 of the total 500 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth units originally converted by Tickford Engineering to homologate the “Evolution” model in British and European Touring car racing. As one of just 56 models to feature an original white paint job, this is one rare car.
It also sets itself apart from the pack with its exceptionally low mileage. Sporting only 5,300 when Mr. Macari first sold it, it has traveled less than 800 additional miles over in the intervening years. Silverstone Auctions previously sold a very similar car for more than 115,00 pounds, but it had nearly twice the total mileage.
A representative of the highly respected RS500 Registrar, Paul Linfoot described the 1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 currently up for auction as of “the most original and best available RS 500s” in the world today.
