Those among us who bleed Ford blue are aware of the storm lurking under the hood of a Twister Special. These limited-edition Mustangs were born in Detroit, destined for the Kansas City sales district. The Twister Special moniker is primarily seen on the side of a 1970 Mustang Mach 1. However, in 1969, when Kansas City placed an order for a herd of Mustangs, they added 90 Ford Torino Twister Specials to the list. Of these limited edition Ford Torinos, Mecum Auto Auctions is preparing to sell one of the rarest examples – with no reserve.

Every Ford Torino Twister Special left the assembly line with the new-for-1970 429 Cobra Jet big-block V8, a shaker hood, a Vermillion red paint job, black interior, and steel wheels. This particular Twister Special Torino is one of less than 30 made with a four-speed manual transmission. With 370 horsepower, this Torino was a quarter-mile contender when the light turned green. This rare muscle car will cross the Mecum auction block in January 2021, and time and desire will decide its final bid.
