Several years after Willys introduced the “1/4 ton, 4×4, Command Reconnaissance” MB into US military service in 1941, the company released a commercial version of this beguiling all-terrain jeep under the name CJ. Featuring the same L-134 Go-Devil engine with a beefed-up three-speed transmission, a side-mounted spare tire, and other design features optimized for civilian use, the CJ2A remained popular with the general public for years.
The Willys CJ2A currently for sale through the international collector car marketplace Hemmings remained within the family that purchased it new in 1947 until it fell into the hands of the current owner. And, boy, did that owner care or this vehicle well, not only giving it a full tub restoration but adding small historically accurate aesthetic upgrades as well as several unique details that give it character. Amazingly, this CJ2A is well over 70 years old, yet has only 22,000 miles on its original odometer.
