Mercedes-Benz has a storied and rich history with beautiful cars, but none other may be as legendary as the pre-war 500K, of which only 342 units were produced. Of those highly limited examples, 29 examples were 500K Special Roadsters, making those the cream of the crop.
This particular example of the Mercedes-Benz 500K Special Roadster is even more unique, with a tumultuous history; apparently it was stolen by American troops during the war, which mysteriously resurfaced in the US almost a quarter of a century later. It was purchased by a Dutch car enthusiasts for $3.7 million, but was seized by German authorities when it was shown at Techno Classica in Essen on account that it belonged to the first owner’s estate. It’s once again offered for sale though Bonhams and is expected to fetch between €5 million and €7 million.
