Volkswagen introduced its new ID.7 at CES in January, and now we are seeing the full debut of its flagship electric sedan. The ID.7 is the sixth and largest addition to VW’s electric vehicle lineup and boasts an impressive range of up to 435 miles (WLTP). The Volkswagen ID.7 is marketed as an electric vehicle for long-distance journeys.

This new v-dub electric features a longer wheelbase than the popular ID.4, showcasing a flowing, curvy profile design with a fastback roofline, sculpted hood, and full-length light strip with LED matrix headlights. Inside, the Volkswagen ID.7 features the latest technology, like a new 15-inch infotainment system, augmented reality head-up display, plush seats with climate and massaging features, IDA voice assistant, and interactive smart air vents.

Part of the reason for the ID.7’s range comes down to aerodynamics. According to Volkswagen, the electric sedan has a drag coefficient of around 0.23, resulting in minimal wind resistance. The VW ID.7 is a 282-horsepower permanent magnet synchronous (PMS) motor with a two-stage, one-speed gearbox.

Battery packs differ by trim levels, of which there are two, the ID.7 Pro and Pro S, which makes it sound more like a smartphone than a vehicle. Nevertheless, the ID.7 Pro features a 77-kWh battery compared to the 86-kW in the Pro S. The larger battery will offer a road-trip-friendly range. However, the EPA measurement standard will differ from the WLTP claim of 435 miles. So be ready to settle for a range of around 350 miles, which is still an improvement over today’s 300-mile benchmarks. More details on the Volkswagen ID.7 will become available when it launches in North America in 2024.
