If you’re a skateboarder then you know that a board is more than just a way of getting around. It is, in many ways, a platform for free expression and a way to showcase your personal style. The Skateroom Jean-Michel Basquiat Skateboards channel that message by turning skateboards into canvases that display real works of art.
Jean-Michel Basquiat was an extremely influential American artist. He grew up in the concrete jungle of NYC, immersed in an urban environment that shared its roots with street skaters who embodied a defiance of authority. Basquiat shared their sense of truculence and became a member of SAMO, a famed graffiti collective that plastered streets across the five boroughs throughout the late 1970s. Though he died young at the age of 27, his art lives on. To help continue his legacy, The Skateroom is offering different collections of three to five skateboards that feature some of his most iconic paintings. From Horn Players to Hollywood Africans, fans of the artist and skaters alike will both fall in love with this series. However, each collection is limited, so if you’re interested in owning one then you’ll need to act quickly.
