The Spectre Type 10 is a heavily modified vintage Austin Mini created by Spectre Vehicle Design. The small, Canadian-based design firm crafted the Type 10 with various sources of inspiration to create something unique in an iconic shape. The Type 10 is a mid-engine Austin Mini powered by a Haltec-controlled Honda K20 engine producing 230-hp. This setup is not the most radical or unique, but it’s the design details that make the Spectre Type 10 stand out in a crowd.
Spectre Vehicle Design used everything and anything as inspiration for Type 10. The seats, for example, were inspired by a photo of actress/fashion model Monica Bellucci wearing a one-piece bathing suit designed with a cutout for her belly button. The color and shape of the bathing suit became the pattern for the Spectre Type 10’s bucket seats. In addition, the car’s interior is said to replicate a Japanese mudroom.
Only ten examples of the Spectre Type 10 will be available, each one requiring a donor Austin Mini to build on. Each car will be different because Spectre Vehicle Design will sit down with the buyer and tailor their Type 10 with desired materials, colors, and design details. Of course, this level of customization comes with a supercar price, which is ironic considering the original design and purpose of the Mini was to be an affordable people’s car. Nevertheless, the Spectre Type 10 will have no trouble finding a market because who wouldn’t want a personalized mid-engine Mini?
