It’s not exactly the Iron Man suit, but it may just be the next best thing. As it turns out, Robert Downey Jr. is a passionate automotive enthusiast as well as an exceptional actor. He contracted with the award-winning Wisconsin vehicle builder SpeedKore to modify his Boss 302, providing constant guidance throughout the process. The resulting masterpiece is his his bespoke 1970 Boss 302 Ford Mustang, which debuted at the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Designed for increased power and speed, the Downey Jr.’s Boss achieves significantly reduced weight by augmenting its original metal chassis fitted with carbon fiber body panels at the bumpers, hood, fenders, deck lid, deep chin spoiler, and quarter extensions. SpeedKore also outfitted the vehicle with a new Ford Performance Aluminator 5.0-liter V-8 engine that features a Stage 2 Ford Performance/Roush supercharger. The car’s interior is also completely bespoke, balancing the modern and retro with fine leather seats and an old-school instrument cluster.
