Vans’ iconic Old Skool 36 has been reinterpreted through the surreal lens of Dutch artist Piet Parra. Part of the OTW by Vans initiative, the collaboration marries skate heritage with art‑school whimsy. Parra’s relationship with Vans dates back to the early 1990s, when he was a sponsored skater long before his bold, gallery‑worthy artwork gained international acclaim. Now his surreal colour palette returns to the silhouette, transforming it into the OTW by Vans x Parra Old Skool 36.

The shoe pairs soft suede with Parra’s signature wavy colour‑blocking and asymmetric details for a minimalist yet expressive look. Playful typography appears on custom tongue labels and mismatched footbeds, which remind wearers not to forget to skate in them.

Comfort comes courtesy of Sola Foam ADC insoles, while a vulcanised sole and Vans’ waffle outsole maintain classic board feel. Matte foxing and custom heel scabs round out the premium construction.

Parra also created a self‑directed video to accompany the launch, offering a glimpse into his creative process and the collection’s narrative. The OTW by Vans x Parra Old Skool 36 retails for $130 and releases January 22 through Vans’ website and select retailers. With art‑driven details, everyday comfort and a reminder to go skate, this collaboration delivers an inspired twist on a classic.
