Aviators and sci-fi enthusiasts have something to celebrate. After years of dreaming about the citizens of tomorrow’s city’s commuting to work in flying personal vehicles, we may finally have a viable way of getting from place to place via short-distance air travel.
The tech gurus at OPENER recently unveiled the BlackFly — a commercial VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft that is safe, affordable, and easy to operate. What’s more, OPENER is heralding its BlackFly as the harbinger of nothing less than a new era of air transportation. While this proposed future remains decidedly uncertain, the BlackFly is certainly amazing. The world’s first “ultralight all-electric fixed-wing extreme short takeoff aircraft,” this PAV (personal aerial vehicle) features simple controls that can be quickly mastered without special training. The BlackFly can travel up to 40 miles at a speed of 72 miles per hour and has been fully flight tested for over 12,000 miles with a full payload.
