Nike is prepping to release the new NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe (GPS), an understated do-everything shoe built on brand innovation. Nike says that the General Purpose Shoe is the culmination of a ten-year partnership between the brand and American contemporary artist, Tom Sachs. In May, Nike and Sachs released the first iteration of its General Purpose Shoe with a muted white upper with blue straps and gum rubber. Now, the classic silhouette is presented in a new dark sulfur yellow colorway.
The sneaker features a breathable knit base and soft suede overlays in muted shades of sulfur yellow. It boasts details like the iconic Nike swoosh branding on the insoles, heels, tongues, and interior liners, along with its very distinct shape with an upturned toe. The shoe is highlighted by pull tabs on the heels and tongue in a splash of orange. Additionally, Tom Sachs’s branding is on the sneakers’ interior tongue. This modern take on the classic sneaker takes its color, shape, and weight from Nike’s practice of ongoing refinement. Nike says the NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe is a result of continuing research and that they took the iconic sneaker, kept what worked, and reimagined it to create a superior sneaker. The NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe is for everyday wear. And, as the company puts it, a built-to-code Nike sneaker.
Joining the already-released muted white upper colorway and the forthcoming yellow iteration, there’s also a brown-based style of the shoe that’s reportedly on the way. The new yellow-based iteration of the Tom Sachs x NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe will be released on Sept. 1 at Nikecraft.com and at select retailers worldwide on Sept. 2. The shoe will come with a $110 price tag.
