The result of a hybridized brewing technique that is fermented under warm conditions with ale yeast and then finished at cold temperatures like a lager, kolsch dates back to the mid 18th century Cologne, Germany. The kolsch style has since proliferated the globe with a wide range of unique flavors.
For its latest brew, New Belgium has brought the kolsch to a whole new arena, taking a distinctive beer and makes it even more distinctive by introducing real passion fruit juice into its taste profile. The result is an exceptionally tropical kolsch with an aroma that mixes passion fruit with overtones of pineapple, lemon, and black currant.
Although light and effervescent, Passion Fruit Kolsch offers a kick with a slightly “puckering” mouthfeel. Moderately sweet from the outset, it contains hits of sourness that persist though its gently bitter finish.
