We are witnessing a new era of Mercedes-Benz in the new EQS SUV. It represents the company’s dedication to zero emissions and an all-electric vehicle lineup. Mercedes-Benz has stated it has no further plans to develop new gasoline or diesel vehicles. The new EQS SUV is based on the current EQS but in a sports utility vehicle layout, which means more interior space. Moreover, there will be two variants of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV offered in the U.S. market: the RWD 450+ and AWD 580 4Matic.

This new electric SUV is the third EV to use Mercedes-Benz’s EQ platform. The 2023 EQS SUV has the same wheelbase as the sedan, but the roofline is nearly eight inches taller. In addition, the second-row seats are electrically adjustable, and there is an optional third-row to seat up to seven passengers. Other optional equipment includes the MBUX Hyperscreen, standard on the AWD 580 4Matic. This curved digital screen is meant to reduce the chore of surfing through menu screens to navigate and manage the car’s operating systems. At the same time, the MBUX Hyperscreen offers the front seat passenger a 12.3-inch display to use for entertainment media.

The entry-level RWD 450+ uses one electric motor placed on the rear axle, while the 580 4Matic uses dual motors to drive all four wheels. Power output for the 450+ is 355-hp with 419 lb.-ft of torque, while the 580 4Matic gets bumped up to 536-hp and 633 lb.-ft of torque. The 107.8-kWh battery pack offers an estimated range of 410 miles. Moreover, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV features standard AirMatic air suspension and available rear-wheel steering. Pricing has not been confirmed but is expected to start in the low six figures.
