Owning a sherry producer is one way to make “sherry-seasoned” considerably more literal. The Macallan TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask is the first whisky influenced by casks seasoned with Valdespino sherry since the historic Jerez producer came under Macallan ownership.

The 20-year-old single malt began maturation on the Macallan Estate in predominantly European oak sherry-seasoned casks, supplemented by American oak. It was later married in a selection drawn from the first 200 casks seasoned with Valdespino sherry specifically for Macallan. Those casks were made at the company’s own Jerez cooperages, seasoned at Valdespino, and shipped to Scotland for filling in 2024.

Bottled at 44.8% ABV, the whisky is described with raisins, figs, Medjool dates, frangipane, cinder toffee, caramelized nuts, dark chocolate, and warming spice. The familiar ring-shaped TIME : SPACE vessel returns, but the more consequential detail is vertical integration: Macallan now controls another step between oak selection, sherry seasoning, and maturation.

The release debuted September 17 at the Macallan Boutique at Harrods, with specialist retail availability following in October. U.K. pricing is £1,100; U.S. pricing and allocation had not been formally disclosed at publication time.
