Motorcycle and track-day focused manufacturer KTM has debuted a new carbon fiber sports car designed for professional and weekend-warrior racing drivers. It’s called the KTM X-Bow GTX and uses the same carbon fiber monocoque featured in the KTM X-BOW, introduced in 2008. It has a full-fledged roll cage and Recaro competition seat housed in what KTM calls a “Jet Fighter canopy.” Powering the GTX is a rear-mounted Audi 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine producing 530 horsepower in a vehicle weighing 2,310 pounds. Channeling the Audi power to the wheels is a sequential six-speed transmission from Holinger. The GTX uses two side cameras instead of traditional mirrors.

KTM designed every aspect of X-Bow GTX with racing in mind. Its 31-gallon fuel tank meets racing safety standards and can be fueled from either side of the car. It features six-piston disc brakes in the front and four-piston discs in the rear and is designed for endurance racing with a built-in air-jack system for easier tire changes in the pits. The GTX’s pedal box is adjustable with up to 30 centimeters of travel, allowing multiple drivers of different heights to switch during an endurance race without moving the Recaro seat. The car’s rear frame is made of high-strength tube steel to protect the Audi engine and sequential gearbox from rear-end collisions and provides mounting points for high-performance radiators. Electric power steering was used to save weight and can be programmed to a driver’s preference. Other safety features like traction control and ABS comes standard.

All this race-ready technology comes at the cost of over $250,000. Anyone familiar with motorsport won’t be shocked by the price tag. Racing is anything but cheap.
