The big news in the motorcycle community is Husqvarna introducing its first electric motorcycle. The e-bike is called the Husqvarna E-Pilen Concept. More than just another e-bike in this growing market, the E-Pilen Concept will focus on a swappable battery system to extend the bike’s performance and range. Press photos of the bike show three slots in front of the rider where the fuel tank would be. These slots hold three 48-volt batteries that a rider can switch out like an old-school video game cartridge.

Intended to be an urban mobility bike, the E-Pilen’s battery packs are weather- and rain-proof for safety. The combined 144-volt battery packs are used to power a 10.7-horsepower (8kW) motor. The total range is about 62 miles (100 km), which is not impressive, but swappable batteries can keep you on the move and out of the charging station. The Husqvarna E-Pilen Concept shares its frame, suspension, wheels, brakes, and swingarm with the KTM 125, 250, and the 390 Duke motorcycles – all set to debut. Husqvarna plans to expand its presence in the urban market. No word as to when Husqvarna will release the E-Pilen bike as of now. Plans to debut an electric scooter variant alongside the E-Pilen are also in the works.
