Great Jones Loft

Great Jones Loft by Union Studio

An industrial factory in Noho from 1903 is reborn as a modern New York loft.

The Great Jones Loft by Union Studio is a residential project in New York City. The loft has been converted from a 1903 Noho factory, with practical and industrial design details that reflects the origins of the space without excessive ornamentation.

The loft’s design embraces the duality of a loft conversion, where the industrial origins blend with the residential use of the space. The brick walls and dark metal compliment the oak that’s been used throughout the space, adding to the industrial yet modern vibe. The white Carrara marble tiles and dining table contrast with the dark wood floor, while the open layout only heightens the sense of contrast. For a space that’s been designed with an industrial past, Union Studio impregnates the space with a real sense of comfort that makes it a home, challenging our ideas of what a home is by giving us a chance to reevaluate our priorities on what makes a space truly a home.
