If the Venn diagram of your life contains an overlap between the seemingly disparate passions of surfing and whisky, you’re in for a treat.
As part of its Beyond the Cask project, the respected whisky makers at Glenmorangie have already transformed their old distilling casks into sunglasses and bicycles. Now, they’re partnering with Grain Surfboards to create the world’s first surfboard made from repurposed casks, with a distinguishing tailblock, book-matched center planks, and custom-made fins.
Made from twelve of Glenmorangie’s oak barrel staves, each Grain Glenmorangie Original Surfboard takes full advantage of these staves’ sloping curves, gently arched from top to bottom and cupped from side to side. The rich tones, colorful flecks, and distinctive patterns that appear during the milling and treating processes are noteworthy, as they even took Grain Surfboards by surprise, albeit a pleasant one.
