Warner Bros. has just released a new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s first war epic Dunkirk. The film seeks to continue the filmmaker’s impressive list of critically and commercially successful films like Interstellar, Inception, and The Dark Knight Triology by doing what Nolan does best — powerful visual storytelling.
The historical film is based on the evens of the Dunkirk Evacuation during WWII, where 338,000 allied soldiers were saved as they were surrounded by German forces. Nolan, who’s known to have an aversion for CGI unless absolutely necessary, has gone to great lengths in trying to keep everything on screen authentic, going as far as using reconditioned warships instead of resorting to CGI for this film. The film will feature a true ensemble cast, with Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Harry Styles. Dunkirk will open in theaters July 21, 2017.
