Warner Bros. has released the official trailer for Dune: Part Three, setting the stage for Denis Villeneuve’s return to Arrakis and the conclusion of his Dune trilogy. Based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, the film shifts the saga from Paul Atreides’ rise to power toward the heavier consequences of wielding it. The result, at least from the trailer, appears less like a victory lap and more like a reckoning.

Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, with Zendaya back as Chani and Florence Pugh reprising her role as Princess Irulan. The ensemble also includes Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson, Isaach De Bankolé, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, and Ida Brooke. That cast gives Part Three a scale worthy of the first two films, but the emotional center remains Paul’s uneasy transformation from messianic figure to imperial force.

Villeneuve’s Dune films have always treated spectacle as architecture rather than noise. The trailer continues that approach, leaning into vast desert imagery, ritualistic tension, and the kind of monumental production design that made Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two feel unusually tactile for modern science fiction. The difference this time is tone. Dune Messiah is famously less interested in heroic ascension than in the cost of prophecy, and the trailer suggests the film will follow that darker philosophical line.

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026. For a franchise that has turned dense literary science fiction into a modern blockbuster language, the new trailer makes one thing clear: Villeneuve is not treating the third chapter as an epilogue. It looks like the bill coming due.
