Ducati Motorcycles has introduced a new sports bike that they describe as “the pinnacle of track performance for mere mortals.” The two-wheeled machine bestowed with such a claim is the Ducati Panigale V4 SP2. This new motorcycle underwent a crash diet through a series of carbon fiber parts. For example, the bike features mudguards made from carbon fiber and its wings and machined Rizoma footpegs and heel guards. Moreover, the Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 rolls on carbon fiber wheels.
In terms of performance, the new Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 is built on the 1103cc V4 Desmosedici Stradale used in the V4S. However, the SP2’s engine is tuned to be faster while remaining user-friendly to non-racing riders. Its engine produces 210-hp and features a lightweight WSB-spec 520 chain to reduce 11-pounds from the bike’s curb weight. The V4 SP2 also features an upgraded STM-EVO dry clutch to improve its downshift performance. In addition, the bike comes equipped with a track-kit that includes an open carbon clutch cover. Those looking for more extreme weight loss can choose the optional titanium Akrapovic exhaust, which reduces weight by 11-pounds while adding 12-hp, at the cost of $6,500.
Besides raw power, the Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 is built with semi-active Ohlins electronic suspension with Brembo Stylema R brake calipers with an MCS radial master cylinder. During its obsession with lightweight and aerodynamics, Ducati milled the ends of the brake and clutch levers to reduce the bike’s air resistance. In terms of design, the Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 wears a ‘winter test livery’ consisting of matte black with red accents and the Ducati Corse logo. Ducati’s “ultimate racetrack machine” will arrive in North America at the end of this year as a 2023 model.
