Marvel Studios has just released the official teaser trailer for Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film, set to open in theaters May 6, 2022, features Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, aka Doctor Strange. Picking up right where Spider-Man: No Way Home left off, it appears that Doctor Strange will have to face some consequences for his actions. In the trailer, an ominous voice says, “Your desecration of reality will not go unpunished.” While not a whole lot is revealed in the trailer, it is apparent how Strange’s spell eventually wreaks havoc on the multiverse, sending rippling consequences throughout worlds.
The trailer shows Strange reunite with Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, aka Scarlet Witch, following the events of WandaVision, Loki, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. We see Strange and Wanda team up to take on monsters and villains from the Multiverse, including an evil, alternate version of Dr. Strange. The trailer hints that Strange will be reuniting with his fellow sorcerers Wong and Mordo, played by Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor respectively. However, after learning that his mentor has dabbled in the Dark Arts, Mordo’s intentions become suspicious. We also see the tentacled monster by the name of Shuma-Gorath that was recently teased on What If…? The monster is seen throwing a bus at Strange who then uses his magic to cut it in half. The action-packed movie is based on the Marvel Comics character Doctor Strange, created by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee. The film is written by Jade Halley Bartlett and Michael Waldron and directed by Sam Raimi.
