In honor of his 70th birthday, sports car visionary Jan Donkervoot has delivered supercar lovers a special present. The Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 harkens back to an earlier time for automotive enthusiasts, with minimal electronic aids that give drivers more involvement in their driving experience. This commemorative speedster is limited to a production run of just 70.
The car is powered by a modified and turbocharged 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder engine manufactured by Audi Sport. Its total weight is slightly over 1,500 pounds thanks to the lightweight Donkervoot proprietary carbon-fiber construction, making the supercar ideal for the racetrack and the road. The car is compliant with Europe’s crash regulations and emissions rules.
The company is keeping car specs scarce for now, but other models in this line have 375 hp and can go from 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds using the same powertrain. Production rolls out in 2020, making this one of next year’s most anticipated releases.
