The Waxed Jackets Our Editors Are Wearing This Winter - IMBOLDN
Go to Top

There’s no question that waxed canvas jackets are incredibly popular, but, you may ask, what exactly is waxed canvas, anyway? Simply put, it consists of cotton fabric that’s embedded with a wax, typically paraffin. This wax provides the water-resistance, warmth, and durability that waxed jackets are known for. It gives the fabric an oily or waxy feel that is sometimes mistaken for nubuck or leather. While it’s not totally waterproof like a Gore-Tex jacket, its breathability and durability make it a highly desirable option.

While waxed jackets will need to be periodically re-waxed to keep them water-resistant, it can be done with relative ease. Furthermore, since they’re made utilizing natural fabrics, waxed canvas is more environmentally friendly than a synthetic jacket made with chemical coatings. The editors here at IMBOLDN provide a run down of some of the waxed jackets they’re currently wearing.
