Just as Nikon announced the Z6 and Z7 last week, Canon followed suit with its own full frame mirrorless camera system and a brand new mount. Featuring a 30.3 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor and a new RF mount (not to be confused with rangefinder’s acronym RF; here it’s just a name), the Canon EOS R captures incredibly vibrant images and impressive 4K 30p video.

But if you want to talk about the new Canon EOS R system, you have to discuss the focus. With 5,655 AF points, 88% horizontal and 100% vertical focus area coverage (when using RF mount lenses), the EOS R boasts the world’s fastest autofocus speed of 0.05 seconds. And, like other mirrorless cameras, smaller body size means shorter flange back distance, which means adapters. If you’re already a Canon user, existing EF and EF-S lenses can be used on the EOS R with adapters.
