Breitling has launched the Super AVI Collection consisting of five new chronographs whose inspiration was drawn from the original 1953 “Co-Pilot” Ref. 765 AVI aviator’s watch and four legendary planes: the North American Aviation P-51 Mustang, the Vought F4U Corsair, the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, and the de Havilland Mosquito. All five new models in the Super AVI Collection are powered by the COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber B04 movement, which provides approximately 70 hours of power reserve. The chronographs are all housed in 46mm x 15.9mm cases equipped with knurled bezels and oversized crowns that sit at 3 o’clock. They are all water-resistant to 100 meters and visually, all models include large, highly legible Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel.
According to Breitling CEO, Georges Kern, “This collection embodies that sense of nostalgia for the early days of aviation when pilots relied on their watches as onboard tools. But you don’t have to be a pilot or vintage-aircraft buff to appreciate the exceptional craftsmanship and rugged design.” The first model in the collection, inspired by the legendary P-51 Mustang aircraft, is the Super AVI P-51 Mustang, which comes in two variations: in steel with a black dial and a gold-brown leather strap or in 18k red gold with an anthracite dial and a black leather strap.
The remaining three models include the Breitling Super AVI Tribute to Vought F4U Corsair, which features a blue dial, tone-on-tone chronograph counters, and a black leather strap, taking design cues from the characteristic livery of the record-breaking naval aircraft. Playing on its namesake’s shark-mouth nose art, is the Super AVI Curtiss Warhawk, with its military-green dial, white contrasting chronograph counters, and red accents. Finally, the Breitling Super AVI Mosquito incorporates a stainless steel case with a polished and satin-brushed black ceramic bezel. With its black dial, the white chronograph counters really pop, while the orange accents recall the roundels and markings found on the Mosquito aircraft.
