In celebration of the tourbillon, Breguet has released the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Anniversaire 5365, an extremely thin, automatically-wound tourbillon dress watch. This is a limited edition of just 35 pieces, which happens to be the number of tourbillon watches made during the lifetime of Abraham-Louis Breguet, the Maison’s founder and inventor of this horological achievement. This new chronograph comes in a 41mm case crafted from rose gold with a fluted caseband and welded lugs with screw bars. Showcasing Breguet’s exquisite mastery of guillochage, a Clous de Paris pattern (interlacing engraved and crossed lines with a pitch of only 0.25 millimeters) takes up the entire central part of the timepiece, while the periphery is decorated with a grain d’orge (or “barley grain”) motif.
The 60-second tourbillon stands out between 4 and 6 o’clock, with one of these axes indicating the seconds. Above the tourbillon, which has been secured by a steel heat-blued bridge that matches the blued steel Breguet hands, is a plate with ‘Brevet No. 157’ engraved onto it. This is a reference to the patent number awarded for the first tourbillon. Powering the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Anniversaire 5365 is the automatically-wound caliber 581. It’s ultra-thin, measuring in at only 3mm, although its construction around a central barrel gives it a power reserve of 80-hours. The watch is matched to a brown leather strap with a triple clasp buckle.
