MING is a 4-year-old horological collective formed and fully funded by six enthusiasts from around the world under the leadership of photographer and designer, Ming Thein, a lover of watches. According to the brand’s website, the MING team draws from over 80 years of total experience collecting fine timepieces – ranging from vintage to avant-garde; from quality affordables to six-figure independent commissions. All of Ming’s watches are assembled, regulated, and tested in Switzerland with final quality control taking place at the company’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. MING’s latest release, the 20.11 Mosaic, features a stunning, laser engraved sapphire crystal and micro-rotor movement.

Powered by the Manufacture Schwarz Etienne Cal. ASE 200.2 movement, it is equipped with the signature MING skeletonized barrel cover. As with other ASE-powered MING watches, the movement is adjusted in five positions and tested for an extended period prior to delivery. Building on themes first seen in the MING 20.01 Concept Chronograph, the 20.11 loses the chronograph but keeps the intricate dial aesthetic caused by the unique sapphire created with the help of DM Surfaces of St Imier over a two-year period.

Depending on ambient light, the 41.5mm 20.11 Mosaic timepiece can turn from invisible to a prominent chessboard. MING chose to use a dark movement finish to provide a contrasting background while adding visual texture. At night, light from the fully charged HyCeram in the sapphire dial will reflect off the Mosaic and result in a soft glow. The 20.11 Mosaic is completed with a pair of handmade straps from Jean Rousseau Paris, a leather travel pouch by Studio Koji Sato, and a 700-lumen Nitecore LED torch for charging the HyCeram.
