A watch roll is a surefire way to elevate a watch collector’s street cred from hobbyist to horophile in a hurry. Besides helping avoid scratches and dings while traveling with a collection (and ensuring everything’s where it should be upon arrival), unspooling a roll atop a dresser adds a touch of panache to timepiece selection. After all, where else might one see a Hublot next to the result of one of Wei Koh’s impossible designer pairings?
It would seem there are few places safer than Trakke’s military-inspired anOrdain Watch Roll. The exterior fabric is a ‘Salt & Pepper’ canvas made using the same process developed by the Swiss during WW2 to reduce their reliance on cotton. The secret? Stinging nettle blended with cotton fibers. The recipe has since found a new home in Glasgow, where Trakke’s artisans finish the fabric with a durable water-repellent coating that can keep even the Highlands’ relentless sogginess at bay.
The interior is a lightweight, dry-finish waxed canvas that plays nice with delicate watch dials and straps while offering snug and secure ticker transport. After mustering the troops, draft a partner for the day (maybe the Cabot; the anOrdain feels too obvious), roll the reserves up, and affix the 70% recycled stainless steel buckle before packing them away. Voila: time to storm that beachhead – or maybe just the airport bar while waiting for that connection to Prestwick.
