Sony Honda Mobility unveiled its EV concept vehicle on the first day of CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This electric sedan prototype aims to be the first vehicle under the new Afeela brand. While the name of the Afeela EV is unknown, Sony announced it would arrive in the U.S. as early as 2026.

This concept car offers a clean profile exterior riding on aerodynamic wheels, with the crisp allure of a modern electronics store filled with digital screens, smooth surfaces, and ergonomic décor. Sony Honda Mobility claims the Afeela EV concept comes equipped with 45 cameras and sensors throughout the interior and exterior of the vehicle. In addition to being paired with TOPS software to provide the car’s ECU with maximum computing power.

The car’s high computing power will come in handy to manage features like Level 3 automated driving, which is claimed to be offered “under limited conditions.” However, Level 2 automated driving assist will be somewhat more available, such as in urban driving conditions. Another digital feature included is over-the-air software updates, in addition to a host of Sony electronic entertainment features.

Sony and Honda’s goal for the Afeela EV is to “create a new value standard for mobility.” In fact, they do not want us to see this EV in the traditional sense of torque figures and zero to 60 times. Instead, they want us to judge the EV concept car as an electronic device in terms of software, network, and user experience. Sony Honda Mobility announced that Afeela will begin taking pre-orders for the yet-to-be-named EV in 2025 before deliveries in 2026.
