When worlds collide, the result is often unexpected — and highly coveted. The Aesop Rock x James Brand “SWFG” Knife is a clear example of masterfully designed, minimal EDC at its finest. The hip-hop artist collaborated with The James Brand (TJB) in support of the launch of his album, Spirit World Field Guide. The pocket knife is both a handy companion and an example of sheer branding genius. Emblazoned with the Aesop Rock name and a trio of Spirit World Field Guide emblems, it’s a hyped-up version of the Ellis, the renowned multi-function knife for which TJB is known. With its dramatic black finish and edgy stainless steel, this interpretation feels fresh and sleek.
Where it really shines, though, is in its functionality. The knife features a lockback mechanism, allowing the user to perform various tasks without the fear of cuts or scrapes while at work. It features a drop point, partially serrated blade, and can easily be stowed in a pocket or suspended from a lanyard. It’s equipped with all of the most important tools of the trade, including a multi-type screwdriver, a bottle opener, and a bail loop for quick and convenient attachment to keyrings, carabiners, or backpacks. The knife also features the brand’s “All Things”® scraper and pry. It’s as much a pioneer of its kind as Aesop Rock himself was of underground hip-hop.
