The one thing that separates an SUV from a sports utility vehicle is its ground clearance. Because of this, Lexus gave its plush GX lineup a complete rugged makeover for the 2024 model year. The first example of this new direction in style and capability is the 2024 Lexus GX, with two new off-road trim levels, the Overtrail and Overtrail+.
Press photos of the redesigned Lexus GX show a flat-paneled, boxy SUV that looks at home in a green wilderness setting, sporting an earth tone paint job and standing tall on nobby 33-inch all-terrain tires. The GX Overtrail and Overtrail+ visual features are black fender flares, a black roof, an aluminum skid plate, and polished black 18-inch wheels. Moreover, four two-tone paint options are available.
Powering the Overlanding pleasing four-wheel drive is a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 and 10-speed automatic transmission, producing 349 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft of torque. Lexus GX Overtrail variants offer an 8,000-pound towing rating. The heart of GX’s off-road hardware is its Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS). This system features larger stabilizer bars, and E-KDSS adjusts to different types of terrain, in addition to an electronic rear-locking differential.
Inside, the 2024 Lexus GX can transport seven passengers with third-row seating. However, there is the option to delete the third row and use the extra cargo space for more expedition supplies. The Overtrail trim package offers two interior motifs with olive-green suede accents because while the GX is ready for all-terrain exploration, it’s still a Lexus. We’ll have to wait a little longer to learn the pricing for the 2024 Lexus GX, but it’s been confirmed that the Overtrail and Overtrail+ are the summits of the lineup.
